World Wildlife Day 2022

World Wildlife Day is a remarkable chance to commemorate the many gorgeous and assorted forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the range of benefits that their conservation provides to us and our future generations. The theme of World Wildlife Day 2022 will be “Recovering Key Species for Ecosystem Restoration” in order to raise awareness of the state of both endangered and critically endangered wildlife and to accentuate the power of conservation efforts.

World Wildlife Day 2022 aims to drive the debate towards the imperative need to reverse the fate of the most critically endangered species, to support the restoration of their habitats and ecosystems. In addition to that, this particular day promotes sustainable use by humanity in line with Sustainable Development Goal 15 which focuses on halting biodiversity loss. The theme also aligns with goals #1, #2, #12, #13 and #14, due to their wide-ranging commitments to alleviating poverty, ensuring sustainable use of resources, and conserving life land.

This year’s World Wildlife Day highlights the importance of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystems can only be considered healthy when their component species also thrive. It just takes one keystone species to disappear for an entire ecosystem to decline and die. This is why actions to protect individual species must also go hand-in-hand with habilitating ecosystems. Beyond a mere moral duty to sustain the Earth, humanity is heavily dependent on the essential products and services that nature provides. From food and freshwater to pollution control and carbon storage, we threaten our well-being by damaging and killing our ecosystems.

The CD4Peace Team takes this opportunity to remind us to commit our lives to the preservation of our wildlife and ecosystems for the benefit of both the current and future generations.
