Kaiserschmarrn Kaiserschmarrn translate to “the emperor’s mess”
There are different stories, which describe the origin of this dessert but most of them are linked to the Emperor Franz Josef I.
One story says that the Emperor was travelling to the Alps and a farmer wanted to make pancakes with his fanciest ingredients. Due to the nervousness of the the farmer, he scrambled the pancakes. To cover up the mess, he used some jam and the “Kaiser” really loved it.
